Wildcat Marching Practice Facility to be renamed in honor of former professor
Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has made the decision to rename the Wildcat Marching Practice Facility to Kindley Hall. This name change, initially proposed in May of 2023, has recently been fully approved and serves as a way of recognizing the unique contributions of donor and former faculty member Dr. Carolyn Kindley.
Dr. Kindley worked as part of IWU’s Division of Music & Theatre for thirty-eight years in a variety of roles. Throughout her time as a faculty member, she taught thousands of students across her classes and spent six years as the division chair. Even after retirement, Dr. Kindley still taught occasionally while serving IWU financially through the donation of hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to create the Pocock/Kindley Endowed Music Scholarship, buy instruments for the PPAC, and build the facility now being renamed in her honor.
Speaking about the renaming, Dr. Euni Rickey stated, “It is difficult to describe all that Carolyn has given back to Indiana Wesleyan University and to me as an individual throughout her long tenure. She gave passionate and careful attention to her students, many on a one-on-one level. As a student and young professor myself, there was no question too insignificant to which she wouldn’t offer sound advice. She set high standards of expectations for her students but also guided them through the process. Carolyn integrated her faith into her teaching with honesty and transparency… I fully support the naming of Kindley Hall.”
The naming ceremony for the newly rechristened marching band facility will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, during Homecoming weekend. Alumni are invited to attend as we celebrate Dr. Kindley’s impact on our university.
