MARION, Ind. (May 30, 2025)Yamil Acevedo, executive vice president of Wesley Seminary, has released his first book, “Faithful Inheritances,” which examines the intersection of theology and cultural studies. The book offers insight into how belief, heritage and belonging converge, particularly within the second-generation Latino experience.

“This book is for anyone asking deeper questions about culture, belonging and faith — especially second-generation Latinos, Christian leaders, scholars and laypeople who care about the future of the church,” Acevedo said. “I hope it offers encouragement, provokes reflection and builds bridges of understanding. Above all, I hope it helps second-generation Latinos see that their in-between space is not a burden, but a blessing.”

Acevedo holds a doctorate in intercultural studies and has decades of experience in academic, leadership and pastoral roles. He has previously published scholarly and non-scholarly articles in theological journals and other platforms.

“Faithful Inheritances” addresses what Acevedo describes as an often-overlooked “in-between” identity among second-generation Latinos.

“I discovered a significant gap in the literature surrounding second-generation Latinos and their faith journeys — an in-between community that is often overlooked,” Acevedo said. “From that point on, my work became about listening to their stories and offering a space where those stories could be seen and heard.”

An on-campus discussion event focused on the book’s themes is being planned for later this year.
