IWU to Host Virtues of Democracy: Voices from the United States Senate on October 15th
October 9, 2024 (Marion, IN) – On Tuesday, October 15, Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) will host the event Virtues of Democracy: Voices from the United States Senate. This event will be held at 7:00 PM on the IWU-Marion campus in the Barnes Student Center’s Globe Theater and is open to students, alumni, and the general public. The featured guests will be Dan Coats and Joe Donnelly. Both are former US Senators, with Coats being a former Republican senator and also the former Director of National Intelligence, and Donnelly being a former Democrat senator and also the former Ambassador to the Holy See.
This event will be hosted by author, IWU Professor and Co-Director of the Lumen Research Institute Dr. Jerry Pattengale and moderated by President Emerita of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities Dr. Shirley V. Hoostra. Speaking about the event, Pattengale shared, “The upcoming Virtues of Democracy conversation is itself virtuous—an irenic discussion between stalwart advocates for democracy, yet from differing political parties. Our nation’s storied history is built on a Constitutional Republic’s core premise of shared governance, and the reality of considering informed ideas and reflections. It’s special to have two respected US Ambassadors at the same table on a healthy and vibrant Christian university in their home state.” The Virtues of Democracy will be recorded and shared with WFYI and other PBS affiliates.
