Marching Wildcat Practice Facility to be renamed in honor of former professor
June 17, 2024 (Marion, IN) - June 14, 2024 (Marion, IN) — Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has made the decision to rename the Marching Wildcats Practice Facility to Kindley Hall. This name change serves as a way of recognizing the unique contributions of former faculty member Dr. Carolyn Kindley and her late husband, Mr. John Kindley. The Kindleys are strong supporters of IWU, donating to student scholarships as well as the music program.
Dr. Kindley worked as part of IWU’s Division of Music & Theatre for thirty-eight years in a variety of roles. Throughout her time as a faculty member, she taught thousands of students and spent six years as the division chair. Even after retirement, Dr. Kindley continued to serve in various roles while also supporting IWU through gifts to create the Pocock/Kindley Endowed Music Scholarship, buy instruments for the Phillippe Performing Arts Center, and build the marching band facility now being renamed in her and her late husband’s honor.
Speaking about the renaming, former colleague Dr. Euni Rickey stated, “It is difficult to describe all that Carolyn has given back to Indiana Wesleyan University and to me as an individual throughout her long tenure. She gave passionate and careful attention to her students, many on a one-on-one level. As a student and young professor myself, there was no question too insignificant; she always offered sound advice. She set high standards of expectations for her students but also guided them through the process."
The naming ceremony for the newly rechristened marching band facility will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 12:30 pm, during Homecoming weekend. Alumni are invited to attend as we celebrate the Kindleys impact on our university.
