IWU to Open On-Campus Multicultural Barbershop
September 27, 2024 (Marion, IN) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is excited to announce the arrival of The SPOT: Cuts + Culture, opening October 16. This brand-new barbershop, located in Barnes Student Center 123 just between Global Grounds and the Hub will serve as a place for haircuts, games, spiritual growth, and more.
Part of the goal of the barbershop is to help enhance the overall experience for students of color at IWU, providing a space which will help cultivate belonging for a diverse array of students and give a sense of ownership for students of color to connect with peers, staff, and the broader IWU community.
Speaking about this exciting new campus initiative, Executive Director of Intercultural and Global Office Mario Rangel shared, “Our objective is to create a space that fosters belonging for students of color, offering a culturally unique social arena and safe haven. We aim to provide mentorship, leadership, and spiritual growth, inspired by the openness found in barbershops. This space will also encourage campus connection, learning from diverse experiences, breaking communication barriers, and building a just and compassionate community.”
The SPOT: Cuts + Culture will be open on Mondays and Fridays from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM and on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
