IWU Division of Natural Sciences Alumni to Speak at Reception Honoring Professor Emeritus Mike Goff

MARION, Ind. (April 14, 2025) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) division of natural sciences alumni Dr. Laura Coats, Dr. Austin Gerber, and Dr. Chris Sloan will come to IWU’s Marion campus on Thursday, April 17, to speak to students about their experiences in the medical field.

Dr. Coats is an anesthesiologist with Midwest Anesthesia Associates, Dr. Gerber is an ophthalmological surgeon, and Dr. Sloan is a family practice physician with Parkview Physicians Group. Each alum brings their own individual experiences and expertise which will provide a wide range of valuable insights.

The alumni talk will be preceded by a special reception to honor Professor Emeritus Mike Goff—a professor who has played an instrumental role in the premedical scientific education of many IWU alumni.

The reception and refreshments for Professor Goff’s recognition will be held from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. on the Goff Plaza balcony at the Burnes Hall of Science and Nursing, with the alumni speaking from 5:00 to 5:55 p.m. in Burnes 203. This event is open to the public.

“We’re very glad to be able to honor Professor Goff’s contributions to our university and to the division of natural sciences specifically,” said Dan Jones, professor of biology. “The fact we’ll have three accomplished alumni sharing their knowledge directly after makes it even better.”
