Indiana Wesleyan University Celebrated for Fostering Diversity with Prestigious Award
MARION, IND. (Jan. 30, 2025) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has been named a recipient of Insight Into Diversity’s 2025 Inspiring Programs in Business Award for its Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program. Representing staff and students from over a dozen countries, the program serves as a catalyst for diversity in higher education. This honor will be featured in an upcoming issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine.
“Located at Indiana Wesleyan University, the DeVoe School of Business actively supports underrepresented groups through specialized programs, mentorship, and partnerships,” said Dr. Shelley Webb, Chair of IWU’s DBA program and Division of Business. “The school is dedicated to developing leaders who can drive positive change in the business landscape, all while adhering to a Christian worldview and emphasizing the importance of ethical and virtuous principles in the marketplace.”
The DBA program attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds, including veterans, active military members, and individuals of various ages, races, ethnicities, genders, and professional sectors.
“The program’s diverse student body and its emphasis on real-world impact create opportunities for students to effect change in a variety of settings,” said Dr. Karen Dowling, IWU’s chief people and culture officer. “The use of problem-based learning and the virtuous business model in the program are distinctives demonstrating implementation of various curricula and strategies for learning.”
The program offers multiple support systems designed to empower underrepresented students academically and personally. Each student is assigned to a research chair who provides mentorship and guidance. Additionally, the program employs an ombudsperson dedicated to addressing student concerns. The Student Alum Mentoring Program (SAMP) further strengthens support by connecting alumni with current students for mentorship.
Thanks to these initiatives, IWU’s DBA retention rates range from 75.1% to 95.2%, depending on program specialization.
The Insight Into Diversity award recognizes institutions committed to recruiting and supporting underrepresented graduate and undergraduate business students. Award recipients must demonstrate effective support systems and serve as models for advancing and sustaining these efforts.
IWU is dedicated to fostering a community that reflects its commitment to "kingdom diversity," striving to honor, respect, and uphold the dignity of all individuals while engaging in proactive and transformational learning experiences.
