The Importance of Faculty Engagement in a Doctoral Program
When looking at doctoral degree programs across universities, IWU’s PhD in Organizational Leadership program meets and exceeds every traditional measurement. What makes organizational leadership important is its ability to help produce better organization leaders in a variety of fields—something many companies and institutions are desperately in need of.
Recently named the number one Online Leadership PhD program in the US by Forbes Advisor, one especially notable area where this program succeeds at IWU is faculty engagement. Just as an organizational leadership degree helps doctoral students learn to improve employee engagement and confidence through effective leadership, IWU faculty members provide exceptional engagement in their programs.
At IWU, the relationships between faculty and students are often close, with faculty providing invaluable mentorship. Additionally, our faculty are engaged in their specific fields, ensuring they care about both their students and the subjects they teach. PhD faculty are considered among the top scholars in the world in areas such as followership and global leadership.
Faculty Who Teach Effective Organizational Leadership Skills
Our faculty work tirelessly to ensure students learn well and this is especially true for our doctoral programs. Recent graduate Andrew Bogan said, “There were faculty who used one hand to keep the bar held high while using the other not to lift me up to the bar, but to pat me on the back and tell me I could indeed make it over.”
Another recent graduate, Sarah Harstad, also had much to say about the role faculty played in her education, saying, “Every journey requires a support system. My village was with me, shoulder to shoulder, iron sharpening iron, creating the most necessary support net; one I couldn’t have known was needed nor built on my own. The faculty of my DOL [Doctorate of Leadership], from Dr. Johnson to Dr. Johnson, were outstanding. They pushed our thinking, our speaking, and our knowledge of self. They provided ultimate leadership to make me a more critical thinker, opened my capacity for engaging others, and walked with me through a shift in identity.”
Meanwhile, graduate Peggy Jean Rickey stated, “Dr. Ludden’s gruff manner hides a heart of gold, he changed my imposter mindset in DOL 720. Dr. Beuthin’s quiet wit and wisdom always inspires me. Dr. Grissom’s kindness is unmatched and a trait for all to emulate. Dr. Freemyer’s silly side made statistics relatable and thankfully passable. Finally, as my committee chair, Dr. P. Johnson’s grace and patience are never-ending. Thank you!”
