DeVoe Division of Business to Host Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales on October 8

October 2, 2024 (Marion, IN) – Dr. Jen Bennett and the DeVoe Division of Business are excited to announce an upcoming Launch and Learn event for students featuring Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales. Launch and Learn is a new initiative this academic year, allowing students the opportunity to learn everything they need to know to launch their business directly from a variety of entrepreneurial leaders.

In addition to his work in politics, Morales has considerable experience as a business executive, consultant, and entrepreneur. During this event, Diego Morales will speak about entrepreneurship, his experiences in the field, and lessons students can learn from what he’s encountered. Lunch will also be provided during this time, allowing students to eat while listening. Speaking about this opportunity and her hopes for student attendance, Dr. Jen Bennett stated, “My goal is to show students that entrepreneurship isn't exclusive to business majors. I want to dispel the myth that only business students can be entrepreneurs. No matter your field—whether you're studying art, nursing, or any other discipline—you can pursue entrepreneurship. I'm working to foster an entrepreneurial mindset across the entire campus.”

Speaker Diego Morales grew up in Guatemala, before immigrating to the United States with his family. Morales received his bachelor’s from Indiana University and holds master’s degrees from both Purdue University and Tilburg University. Morales has served in the United States Army, Indiana National Guard, and been part of the boards of the Indiana Latino Institute, Indiana Latino Expo, and Indiana chapter of the American Cancer Society. He has received a variety of honors including Sagamore of the Wabash, Kentucky Colonel, and Ambassador of Peace by the government of Guatemala. In 2022, Morales made history as the first Latino elected to statewide office in Indiana, when he became the state’s sixty-third Secretary of State.

This event will happen on October 8 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, in the Barnes Student Center’s Jones Banquet room. Anyone is welcome to attend, although due to space constraints, this event is available for just fifty attendees. To register, contact Angie Thompson by emailing angie.thompson2@indwes.edu.
