IWU Announces ASN to MSN in Primary Care Nursing with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialization

MARION, IND. (Jan. 22, 2025) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is pleased to announce the brand new ASN-MSN in Primary Care Nursing with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialization. This exciting associate’s to master’s program is designed to help healthcare professionals achieve their master’s degree without having to worry about obtaining a bachelor’s degree.

This associate of science in nursing to master of science in nursing program consists of 19 courses over 45 months and is designed to prepare registered nurses for independent and interprofessional clinical practice to treat psychiatric mental health conditions of people across the lifespan. Students learn decision making and direct accountability for diagnosing and treating individuals with psychiatric mental health and co-occurring medical conditions. Students accrue a minimum of 820 practicum hours and attend an onsite residency in advanced health assessment, as well as two on-site intensives. Graduates will be equipped to become nurse practitioners, pursue clinical work, and have multiple options for continuing their education further.

Speaking about this new program, Associate Dean Dr. Darla Gowan shared, “This exciting new program will provide professionals with a clearer path to their master’s in a program that gives both the theoretical knowledge and applicable practice to excel. From a faculty standpoint, we’re excited to educate the next generation of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners as they prepare to make a difference in the growing behavioral health population.”
